I'm just waiting for the realism mod to be released (completely). That's not to say I won't be getting VAS:P. Meaning, if you're looking for a navy game that will let you run simulation battles between Bismarck & Tirpitz and the Yamato (1945) to see who would have won. Though the biggest point in favor of Victory at Sea is they will eventually include Italy, Britain, and Germany (at least). Where's the main show itself? They also completely ignored the largest Battleship battle in history - Leyte Gulf. Their more like weirdly edited tiny "one shots". For example, they have Battle of Midway Day 1 and Day 2, but they don't have the actual battle itself (Yorktown, Hornet, and Enterprise versus Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, and Soryu). They also chose to do the historical battles very weird. I would certainly say War at Sea has a more current gen look to it, and the Realism mod can only do so much (only effects ship models, will not be able to do anything about the very low res land models and textures), but trying to set up a custom game in War at Sea is a clunk nightmare. I think I play the War at the seas campaigns only 1-2 times and will then use the game for historical battles and possibly (when the DLC is released) look forward to submarine simulations in the Atlantic. If you are looking for a Pacific game with many fleets / ships and you want to expand more than one base, because those are also important with VASP, you should stay with VASP, as the replayable value seems to be much higher here. but learning all the commands is really tedious compared to VASP. If you are looking for a game with weather, submarines, you are in good hands with War at the seas. The only real downside are the useless subs when you compare them to the other game. It's a damn good game, which reflects the entire Pacific War well, and you're allowed to recreate carrier groups, recreate realistic large fleets, wage massive aircraft in a battle, convoys have real meaning and you have hangars! I can't understand why one can complain about VASP. I would adjust the hit points to the tonnages and most of the post war warships and convoyships could be killed by only one long-lance IJN torpedo. That dive bombers would hit better without having to manually take over the flight groups. AP bombs which can do more damage to ship surfaces This is a science in itself for me and I would like to make some changes in VASP. * Remove "general" fleets from my mod files. You panic trying to let your ships evade and then spend hours (RL time) trying to find the submarine, which mostly escapes. * Submarine attacks always begin with a torpedo salvo from all tubes. * no animations for landings (carriers and groundforces) * all you really need is a single mini convoy to maintain your fleets and bases. buy a comparable ship and the damaged one will first be repaired in the "warehouse"). * Damaged ships must be exchanged for "new" ones (dissolve. * you need spotter everywhere, otherwise you won't see the enemies if you send all your warplanes there. that takes an extremely long time and is only possible in pause mode if you want to use them all. you have to start every scout yourself and plan the flight route. that means if you already send 24 dive bombers into the area in which spotters operate, a few bombers are excluded. * only a maximum of 24 aircraft per battle. if 2 fleets stand together, one will not be used * only a maximum of 10 slot fleets allowed per battle. * Inferior unit graphics than the "new" units of the realism MOD * Too few resources to expand all ports / airfields. * you only get currency when you sink ships * in the campaign a very small section of the entire Pacific War (there are, however, individual missions) (this means: there are a maximum of 2 aircraft carriers on each side) * You can only buy as many ships of each type as there were in reality. * miserably long battles waiting for an enemy ship to finally sink. * breathtaking "lone wolf" submarine battles (that's why I play this game) that are reminiscent of old-school submarine simulations from the 80s. and sink your ship yourself from time to time. * The damage system / damage control with all the bulkheads on board, which you can flood manually. * Fight at night where the IJN has an advantage. * The "aiming system" and different types of ammunition * Temperature differences under water (important so that submarines can hide) I'm just trying to keep this post as short as possible and mention the advantages and disadvantages compared to VASP I have found so far: If you think you have to let your mouse suffer at VASP, you have not yet played "War at the sea" :) the models look much better than in "war at the sea" and I love carrier group battles. I haven't been playing the "new" game for as long as VASP and I already know that I'll be looking for the next Realism MOD update at the latest. They are similar and yet both have shortcomings.
